We are based in Houston, TX and have options for local and distance adoptions.

With that in mind, we would appreciate applications only being submitted by families who are serious about adopting. It takes us 4-5 hours to completely process applications and we want to use that time to work with families who are committed to bringing a new family member into their lives.

You MUST be 21 years old to apply, must have never been convicted of animal cruelty, must be able to provide two, non-family references, and must be able to financially afford the cost of owning a dog.

We gladly adopt to individuals who live in pet-friendly rental housing. But, we do ask that you are aware of any requirements your leasing agency may have – including, but not limited to pet deposit/monthly fees and any breed/size/weight restrictions.

If you live on a property owned by a relative, we will still need their express permission to adopt to you, so please be prepared to provide us with that information.

We ask that adoptive families be ready to bring their dog home within TWO weeks of the application. In general, we cannot hold dogs beyond that. The longer the dogs are with us, the more they miss out on time with their family and the fewer dogs we are able to rescue.

If you are not ready to bring a dog home within a 2-3 week time period, please check back and see what dogs we have available closer when you will be ready to welcome your dog home!

Many of our dogs are fostered in Houston and travel to their families via pet safe transport options following the completion of the adoption process. (We get that this method of adoption is not for everyone and totally respect and understand that!)

We do also work actively with fosters in Seattle, Portland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Boston and many other areas. So, if you are interested in a specific animal, email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org and we’ll gladly give you location details!

Please be sure to read the biographic information on the dog you are interested in including breed, size (or projected size) and temperament. We spend a lot of time assessing the dogs’ behaviors, personality, potential challenges, and health. We want every family+dog combination to be the best possible fit!

Our adoption fees are $350USD for Houston area adoptions and $500USD outside of the Houston metro area. Fees are inclusive of vet care and any transport costs. For pets being adopted into Canada, there is often a custom’s fee that must be paid directly to customs at the time of pick up.

Adoption fees are required to be paid in full within three(3) days of the application being finalized and prior to pet parents taking custody of the dog for location adoptions. Once paid, fees are non-refundable.

Fees may change based on medical or transport needs.

We accept payment via PayPal, Apple Pay, Chase Pay, and Venmo. We do not accept checks as a form of payment.

The application will take approximately 20 minutes to fill out and works best from a computer. <p> The more detailed you are with your answers, the fewer follow up questions we will have and the quicker we will be able to process the application.

Giving your personal and vet references a heads up that we will be contacting them can also help speed up the application process.
